SURGICAL PROCEDURES
The many innovative advances in surgical techniques allow surgeons to perform more and more procedures on an outpatient - or ambulatory - basis. Ambulatory surgery allows you to have a surgical procedure and go home the same day to recover.
Not every patient is appropriate for ambulatory surgery. Our staff will review your medical history and the results of diagnostic testing prior to surgery to be sure you meet our guidelines for "well-surgical care."
Our facility offers the same level of medical excellence in an environment that can be more convenient, less stressful and frequently more economical than in-hospital surgery.
Surgical procedures performed at ambulatory surgery centers, like ours, are generally completed in 90 minutes or less, allowing you to return home, to recover, within hours of your surgery.
Peninsula Surgery Center specializes in minimally invasive surgery in several specialty areas. Some of our most frequently performed procedures include:
General Surgery
- Breast biopsy and partial mastectomy. The surgeon removes abnormal breast tissue for diagnosis to determine treatment.
- Hernia repair. This procedure surgically repairs an opening or weakness in the wall of a muscle, tissue, or membrane that normally holds an organ in place.
- Laparoscopic cholecystectomy. During this procedure, the surgeon inserts a tiny scope into the abdomen through a small incision in order to remove your gall bladder.

Gynecology
- Cervical biopsy. The surgeon removes a portion of the cervix for diagnosis or for treatment of precancerous cervical disease.
- D&C. This procedure involves dilation of the cervix and curettment (scraping) of the endometrium (the lining of the uterus) in order to diagnose and/or treat diseases of the lining of the uterus.
- Hysteroscopy. The surgeon examines the inner cavity of the uterus through a fiberoptic telescope inserted through the vagina and cervical canal.
- Laparoscopy. During this procedure, the surgeon inserts a tiny scope into the abdomen through a small incision. It is often used to diagnose disease of the fallopian tubes and pelvic cavity.
- Tubal ligation. During this procedure, the surgeon inserts a tiny scope into the abdomen through a small incision. The fallopian tubes are surgically closed to prevent an unfertilized egg from reaching the uterus.

Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine
- Arthroscopy of the knee, shoulder, ankle, or elbow. The surgeon examines or repairs the tissue inside or around your joints.
- Fracture and tendon repairs. These surgical procedures realign and stabilize broken bones and tendons.
- Hand surgery, including carpal tunnel release. Carpal tunnel syndrome can be caused by compression of the median nerve at the wrist, which can lead to pain and weakness in the hand. Carpal tunnel surgery involves one or two small incisions over the palm of the hand. The surgery can be performed endoscopically, using a small camera attached to a monitor.

- Myringotomy. The surgeon creates an incision in the ear drum to remove fluid from the middle ear. The procedure may also involve placement of ear tubes to promote fluid drainage.
- Septoplasty. This surgery corrects defects or deformities of the nasal septum that may obstruct the natural flow of air through the nose.
