MEDICATIONS
As part of your medical history, we will ask you for a complete list of the medications you're taking. We will ask you about prescription medications as well as over-the-counter medications like herbal remedies, vitamins, supplements, aspirin, antacids and other similar items. If you're not sure what medications you're taking, please talk with your doctor, specialist or your pharmacist or ask these professionals to write down the information.
It's important for you to have a list of your current medications with you at all times, not just when you're having surgery. Share your medications list with your doctor, specialist, pharmacist and hospital staff every time you receive a new prescription or have medical care, testing or treatment. These health professionals will check to be sure you're using the right medications, at the right times, in the right doses. They will also look for drug interactions that may be harmful.
Contact our director if you would like a MediCard. This wallet-sized card is just the right size to carry with you wherever you go. On the MediCard, you can write down your prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, allergies, immunizations and other important information. After you fill it out, put it right next to your health insurance card or identification card, so you'll remember to keep it updated.
